SUVs in cold states targeted in GM recall

Posted by Cornelius Nunev on April 17, 2012
Cars / No Comments

In an uncommon regionally-targeted recall campaign, General Motors Business is asking the owners of some of its crossover SUVs from various divisions to bring in their vehicles and have the windshield wipers looked at. Just those owners who live in the northern states will be impacted.

Recall targets colder areas

Only owners in chilly areas will be impacted by the recall, which has to do with a nut holding the windshield wiper in place. This is as the chilly and ice can cause the nut to loosen making the operation of the wiper arm extremely hard.

Three recalls

Notices will be sent starting on April 16 to impacted owners. There are 28 states focused on by the recall, and it also contains the District of Columbia. The 50,000 crossover SUVs being recalled will come from three different divisions of General Motors; the recall contains the 2011 and 2012 Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia or Chevrolet Traverse.

Only in 28 states

The recall includes 28 states. It involves Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, PA, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West VA, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

No incidents brought on

Any affected owner who brings the vehicle in to an authorized dealership can get the wiper arms tightened, according to GM, for free. This is in spite of the truth that General Motors does not know of any crashes brought on the problem.

The world’s largest-selling automaker also says that, if requested by an owner, it will also tighten the windshield wiper arm nuts on affected vehicles not in the focused on areas, free of charge.

Contact regarding recall

If you want to find out more about the recalls, you can call the individual divisions of GMC, including Buick at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020 or GMC at 800-462-8782. You can call the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration instead if you want too. Use campaign #12V151000 whenever you call 888-327-4236, and you also will get all the right data.

What Exactly Do You Know About The Porsche Automobile?

Posted by Anca Cox on April 16, 2012
Cars / No Comments

It’s unlikely that you never have heard of the Porsche automobile; you may even have enjoyed a ride in one, or just maybe there’s one of them parked in your driveway. However you may not know where the Porsche actually came from. With the story of the Porsche car, it is hard to say what the real beginning was. In 1948 the world for the first time came across a car by the name of Porsche, and two years later, in 1950, the Porsche 356 was introduced in the United States by Max Hoffman. Although the actual beginning of the Porsche story was probably in 1875, when, in a Bohemian village called Haffersrdorp, a son was born to the local tinsmith.

Ferdinand Porsche was his name, and he enjoyed technical genius, but little signs of having engineering skills that were disciplined. The only formal education he had was some part-time education in engineering in Vienna, and when he was 25 he turned to automibile design for a career. Being an engineer he seemed to be brilliant, but he was also temperamental and over time moved from one leading German car manufactur to another. Porsche had been responsible for the style of a dozen of those cars that made spectacular technical history. The SSK collection, produced with his aide while he worked for Mercedez-Benz, continues to be one of the most awe-inspiring ever.

Porsche afterwards established his own engineering consulting team, which became Porsche A.G., after he was let go from Mercedes. He was sacked because he wouldn’t go along with the engineering policies. He established a crew with several engineers he cherry-picked, with a special interest in racing cars and sports cars. One of many assignments among the countless that they landed, was to develop the luxury sedan, the Steyr, for an Austrian firm. The furthest the application eventually got was to the prototype level. Their expert services were also used by Audi, then called Auto Union, who were the first car maker to develop front-wheel drive economy cars.

The Grand Prix also reaped the benefit from the abilities of the team, with the supercharged V12 and V16 engines for the mid-engine racing cars having been developed by them. For almost a decade, they took over European auto racing, together with Mercedes-Benz racer. Sometime following that, NSU and Zundapp both used their best-known designs. Some well-known Porsche protoypes were the torsion-bar suspension, branded by them, and the rear-mounted engine. Neither company constructed the designs fast enough for Porsche, so he made a sale of the idea to the German government. His design was manufactured in a factory at Wolfsburg, that he oversaw the construction of. His car was referred to as Type 60 in his drawings, and it came to be known as the Volkswagen Beetle.

Over the last 100 years or more the engineering firm of Porsche has produced a lasting impression on the car industry. He and his family have certainly given a lasting and often unique contribution to the design and engineering of the automobile.

A Few Facts That May Interest A Customer About Car Leasing

Posted by James Wilson on January 08, 2012
Cars / No Comments

One goal that many have is to own their very own mode of transportation. Unfortunately there are those that find themselves thwarted in that goal because of the fact that they can not take the conventional route through a car dealer to reach that goal. There are others though that have found car leasing as a viable alternative route to attaining what they want.

One thing about leasing that is quite appealing to many is the flexibility in the choice they have of vehicles that they can drive. Such as the fact that in the lease agreement itself there are provisions in there that allow for a kind of trade in should the driver think it is necessary. Thus giving him, or her, the chance to get behind the wheel of a machine that shows less wear on it.

Reducing, or maybe even eliminating, the expenses that are related to repair is another reason that one chooses to lease. This is due to the fact that the agency that has provided the vehicle in the first place is often obligated to maintain it as well.

Towing services being provided should it be needed is also considered a plus. Thus all that need to be done is to call the right person to request a repair pick of the car. A replacement car can be provided should it be needed because of delays in the estimated times of repairs.

When one is driving their leased vehicle one should be aware of the mileage limit that has not been exceeded. After all one does not need to be slapped with additional fees that reflects that overage in miles.

Car leasing then is what makes it possible for many to have the reliable transportation that they crave. Thus one should take the steps to make an agreement with an agency that will be beneficial for both of the parties.

Hunting For Ford OEM Parts

Cars / No Comments

No mater what kind of Ford you own, you will need some spare parts sooner or later. You don’t want the panic that comes with not knowing where to find replacement parts when you desperately need them. In your case, you know a better than to wait until that moment to do your searching. Use a lot of your resourcefulness to find suppliers. The important thing is that you know that this option is available to you.

The following are some tips for finding Ford OEM parts.

1. Find out if parts for your car model are available

Some stores offer everything from old model parts to new ones. You need to find some stores that carry many of the parts for your particular car type. Make a short list of these stores for future reference. Also, bear in mind that your model may be difficult to accommodate. I’m not saying you should not go for the model you want. Older models may not have spare parts available except for those from dealers.

Family-style cars are the most numerous, as many Ford owners would rather buy cars that can accommodate family needs than sports cars. Many shops would offer you spare parts for your SUV because the demand is high. Even older models of SUVs or family-friendly Ford vehicles will have more spare parts available in various places.

2. Understand When Your Car is Weakening

If your car has been showing signs of wear and tear, you may need to find a good store to buy parts from sooner than you think. Your driving style as well as the frequency of use may be contributing to your car’s wear and tear. Some owners would rather have several parts of the same type on hand just in case. This way, they only need to pay a one-time fee for everything. But it’s still best to understand how much these parts cost, just in case you have to look for your own. There are many sellers of Ford OEM parts over the internet, if you know how to look for them.

Let us discuss more about Ford parts as well as Ford OEM parts today.

Car Covers Can Reduce Your Risk Of Car Theft, But Which Ones Work?

Posted by David Bynon on October 11, 2011
Cars / No Comments

Since the 1970′s I’ve used car covers to protect my cars and keep them looking great, including my first car, a yellow Open GT. I have especially fond memories of that car. It didn’t have a lot of power, but it was really fun to drive.

The memory is still fresh in my mind the morning I discovered my Porsche 944 Turbo had been stolen. It was in 1991 and I was staying over night at a local hotel. You can only imaging the surprised look on my face when I went to the parking lot and discovered it was gone. I’m sure my jaw must have hit the ground. The one time I’m too lazy to put my car cover on, it happens. Is that bad luck, or what?

You might have heard the old saying “Out of sight, out of mind,” and I can tell you from my own experience that it’s quite true. According to the top names in car covers, keeping your car under a cover keeps most thieves away. But, which type of car cover works the best?

This isn’t just hype by the car cover makers, either. Most auto insurance companies also realize the theft deterrence benefits of a good car cover. When the cover is locked to the vehicle, it simply adds too much risk for most thieves. When boosting a car, time is everything. What thief wants to add an extra minute or two to getting inside the vehicle before they can begin hot wiring to get the car started?

As you can imagine, not all car covers are created equal when it comes to theft deterrence. There is a big difference between an indoor cover and an outdoor cover, for example. Custom-fit versus ready-fit makes a big difference, too.

While an indoor car cover might keep a car under wraps, the material is pretty light and easy to cut through. They are meant to be dust covers inside a garage, not all-weather protection outside.

Conversely, a well made outdoor cover will be made using three to five layers of woven polyester material. Sure, you can cut the material with a knife, but it will take some effort.

Fabric is one thing, and fit is another. There’s a huge difference between a snug fitting custom-fit cover and a baggy ready-fit cover.

Ready-fit means that the cover is basically the correct size and shape to fit over your vehicle. It’s like a large, canvass bag. It gets the basic job done, protecting your car from the weather, but there are a lot of limitations. Specifically, the loose fit means it will flap around allowing both the weather and a thief to get inside pretty easily. Also, without a tight fit, the material will rub on your car’s fine finish, eventually causing wear.

The real benefit of a custom-fit car cover is how well it fits. It’s going to be tight and sung. No detail is left unnoticed, including perfect alignment of mirror pockets and form fitting elastic all around. Plus, for theft protection it will incorporate reinforced grommets for your locking cable.

Looking For How To Look For Ford OEM Parts

You need to find a good source of ford oem parts when you have had your car for a while. Even when you’ve just bought the newest model, there will come a time when you will have to find oem parts for your Ford. No matter how careful you are, your car will always wear out. This is especially true if you use your car on a daily basis. Even though you’re careful with your car, it could become weaker.

Sooner or later, with use or abuse, your car will need new parts. The necessity to find an OEM parts distributor depends on the model of ford you are using. For instance, the Ford Taurus needs more parts compared to other models. Be extra vigilant about the catalytic converter as well as the exhaust manifold and engine. When these parts start to give out, make sure you replace them at once.

The parts you buy should be of similar quality to those already in your car. Original products are meant to be used based on the specifications of your Ford. Make sure the materials are compatible so that you won’t have to go for repairs again. Sometimes, there is no need to trade out your old model if you can replace the parts. Plus, you will not need to spend too much on repairs.

Original parts or OEM parts may be the best ones for your Ford. Traders of OEM parts can afford to go lower than dealers who sell only branded merchandise. For the same quality, you will find that the OEM parts sold in the shops are cheaper. The savings will go nicely with your plans of upgrading other aspects of your car like the window tint, the paint or new tires.

Create a good network of sources for the parts you are likely to need in the future. You never know which parts you may need in the future.

If You Are Searching for BMW OEM Parts

Posted by Marcus Miller on October 11, 2011
Cars / No Comments

Owners of BMW often go looking for BMW parts and accessories over the internet. Good handling is one of the main reasons why BMW is popular. However, you can expect the suspension and steering parts to become subject to wear and tear. Sometimes, dealers charge too much for these parts’ replacement. It is pricey to maintain a BMW, but it is a joy to drive. Luckily for BMW owners, there are some parts that can be bought for cheaper.

The first thing to do is to research where other BMW owners get these parts. Find out if there is a good aftermarket for BMW parts near your location. Over the net you will find forums especially for BMW owners. There are many parts being sold in auction sites. There are also different websites dedicated to BMW owners that want to network with other owners and sellers to find the spare parts they need.

The rule of thumb is to check out the genuine parts. Genuine spare parts always have the BMW logo. Go to dealerships to find out which parts you really need. Even if the prices are sky high, don’t worry. The objective is to have an idea on the price of genuine spare parts. Of course, there are many OEM dealers out there that can give you a lower price.

There is a lot of confusion about these genuine or OEM parts. Are the genuine parts and OEM parts similar? Many brands like BMW subcontract another company for creating some parts. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. These parts will fit any BMW car because they are replicas of the genuine versions. The difference is that the branded ones will have the logo and will cost more. There are some places that sell aftermarket parts, which may or may not have come from a real BMW. These are not original but the parts are meant to perform like the OEM counterparts.

It takes knowledge to really understand which spare parts are best for your automobile. Doing research and studying your options will make you a better BMW owner.

Here’s a website that will discuss more about BMW Parts and also on BMW OEM Parts

Happy Scrappy – How I Generated 150 Scrapping My Old Car

Posted by Rachel Harding on October 11, 2011
Trucks-SUVS / No Comments

If you are like me then you hate waste and love making money! I cannot stand to just throw things away in the rubbish, especially things that have some value, sentimental or otherwise. Ebay of course is a great way to make money from second hand goods that you no longer have use for. But I always thought that you could only really make money from goods that still actually worked. And things that did not work any more were simply fit for the trash heap.

Not so when it comes to scrap cars, which seemingly retain value whatever their condition as my recent experience has proven. Let me tell you a short story about my little old car, how I made 150 and got rid of a headache at the same time.

I bought my car second-hand around 1999. I cannot talk about the make or model; nevertheless suffice it to say it absolutely was a well known executive motor. It was my total pride and pleasure, a car I had generally wanted. I imagined the bee’s knees whenever I drove it. That car actually did serve me effectively for most of its lifespan. Nevertheless like many things, period wears them down and possibly at particular point things commence to go wrong.

It was 18 months ago that it all started to fail for my car. To start off, problems with the electrical occurred. After that problems encountered with the engine and consequently complications one after another. It turned out not long before my reliable car turned out to be very unreliable. During winter months I merely didn’t know whether it would start or remain stopped. The actual repair charges kept mounting up until the phase where it merely failed to justify restoring it any more. So I bought a new car.

I did not know what to do with my old car, and it remained on my driveway for months gathering rust. It was well past the point of starting, it was no longer taxed or insured and quite frankly was becoming an eyesore, taking up space. Then a friend told me how he had employed a scrap car dealer to tow away his car after it was involved in an accident, and was in fact paid a small sum of money. I found this hard to believe and had expected that I would have to pay someone to get rid of it for me once I finally got round to it.

So, after researching online I contacted a local scrap car dealer, agreed a price of 150 based on the scrap metal value, and had him tow it away for me. Problem solved, headache gone, and 150 cash in my pocket. And as you can see I have been so happy about this whole experience that I have written about it!

In case you have a car that has reached the end of its existence, which unfortunately don’t drives and you simply need to get rid of, therefore do not agonize. Just look for your nearby scrap car dealers, get some estimates, agree on a cost and you’re sorted! It isn’t often in your everyday life that you will get paid to have a problem solved as in most cases the other way round. Thank god for scrap car dealers!

Reasons Why It Is Correct To Think About A Car Lease Option

Posted by Paul Smith on October 08, 2011
Cars / No Comments

It is good to consider a car lease option for many reasons. Many people are going that route simple because they get to drive the latest model once their contract expires. They also do not have to do an outright purchase, which can become expensive considering the interest rates today.

Most finance companies that offer these types of deals, have already bought their vehicles from the factories. They in turn lease their cars out to people. When the contract comes to an end you can either payoff the car or trade it in for a newer model.

There are many benefits in going this route because it can help give your business a more professional look where otherwise you had to be driving an old model. This could help make a good impression on clients and bring in orders.

An added bonus is the low deposit required. With a normal purchase deal, you would have to give a huge deposit to get finance. So spending your money on a small deposit on a lease option gives you more cash in your pocket to invest some place else.

You are also going to have lower monthly payments. This means that you actually pay for the depreciation of the vehicle and not the total price. Having a restricted monthly budget therefore, might help you get the dream car you have always wanted.

Of course, if you can’t wait to drive that latest model, you can opt to trade-in your existing vehicle. You do not have the added headache of selling the vehicle because it is not yours.

There are flexible renting terms on the market today. Some will start at two years and others might even go up to five years. Therefore, talk to a few companies to see what they have on offer before you rush into anything.

Many businesses also lease their vehicles for those special tax breaks. Buying the vehicles outright, especially if they have a large fleet, does not make financial sense, because the vehicles are going to depreciate by the month. Leasing allows them to claim from the tax man and they do not have to worry about owning old vehicles.

The great thing about car leasing is that there are many options open to you at the end of your lease period. You could trade in your vehicle and start the process again. You are also under no obligation to purchase the car when the lease period ends.

By obtaining a car lease, you can drive a new or late model car without the upfront cost of a purchase. Explore the options in styles and models by visiting the website at http://www.lease4less.org.uk/ now.
